I am not sure if this is a problem with my router or SP2. Here is my setup RCA cable modem -> Netgear RP614 -> two computers. Since I installed SP2 my computers loose there ability to go out to the internet after awhile. What happens is that both or one of the computers will be in use; going to websites, using aim, anything. But then all the sudden they loose the ability to go out to the internet eventhough they are still connected to the router and have an IP address. They can both log into the router via 192.168.0.1. The router shows that both devices are attached. It says it has an outside IP address. So what is going on?

try checking the coax connection to your modem, I had a loose connection and only had limited signal to the internet .

Tried the firewall but that didn't help. Never even thought to check to see if the cable is loose.

I have a similar problem. Whenever there's a power failure, both my netgear brand cable modem and router lose power, of course. When power comes back everything starts up just right, except that the RP614 (version 1, firmware 4.15RC4) doesn't get enough information from Comcast's DHCP server to be able to handle DNS for the local network.

Netgear says to power cycle the cable modem, wait, then power cycle the router. This procedure restores DNS service. But, it's a pain in the *ss.

Is there any way to get this equipment to be more persistent about bringing itself back online after power failure?

I'm having the exact same problem. If it would only fail when we lost power I'd be content, but it just suddenly can't communicate with no apparent cause.
I figured out a way to avoid rebooting everytime - maybe this will give someone a hint. I go to the c prompt and after getting to the root directory I type "ipconfig /release" Then I disconnect the power from the RP614, reconnect it and type "ipconfig /renew" and this usually allows me to reacess the internet. If I type "ipconfig /renew" before I disconnect the power it times out and I have to try again.

Any ideas this is very annoying!! Thanks
