Just been delousing a Pack-Bell pc with an HP keyboard. Amongst other stuff, found
    Netropa and MMkeybd.exe.

Netropa definitely trying to acces the web every few seconds, just as this chap claims.

    Hi StudioT

This one seems to get mixed results, alot of folk saying its ok and safe and others saying its bad, have to personally say if a KB is connecting to the net then there is something not good about it as its suposed in this case to be controlling the extra keys, not being an update app, so why the net connection.

http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/process/mmkeybd.exe.html ( check out last entry as it maybe worth just uninstalling the software )

just a few of my favoured haunts for startups and files.

Yeah Backweb seems to come with allsorts of software these days to manage updates, I remove it on all occasions I see it, apart from if there is a Logitec Wireless KB involved, for some reason last two I removed backweb from the KB and Mouse stopped working properly, reinstalled driver/soft and they worked, spooky.

    Thanks, Norby

I am aware of the 'update'. It doesn't prevent attempted internet connection, nor remove the offending stuff.

Nor does it answer the question, why does a keyboard need to connect to the internet, unless it has a keylogger?

And why do 'reputable' outfits like Hp foist them on users in the first place?

    So 'Fix' ?

Interestingly Sophos Anti Rootkit reported two hidden keys in the registry. Both contained IP transmission details!
