i have a Netopia R3100-U,-UP,-I isdn router and was wondering if i could use it as a switch. i got no high speed but i do play alot of lan games and i wanted to add another computer. i already have 2 pc's hooked via crossover but i wanted to add a 3rd. can i do this with my router or do i have to go buy a switch?
if this can be done how do i go about setting it up from a crossover cable to beable to use the router??

also this is the first time i really looked at the router and i seen on the from it has WAN1 and WAN 2 dont this mean i can run a WAN off of it? because i thought this was just a wired router not a wireless one too.:confused::confused::confused:

I'm not familiar with that router, but most internet routers have several switch or hub ports on the back labeled 1,2,3,4, etc in addition to the "WAN" ports. The "WAN" port is just the port that connects to your internet service; so your cable modem, your isdn modem, your dsl modem, etc. So chances are your pc is connected to this device on one of the numbered ports. If its connected to a port called "PC", then there is no switch on this device and you'd have to buy another device such as a wireless router to connect your other pc's efficiently.

Secondly If this device doesn't have an antenna sticking out from it, then there's no wireless on the device. "WAN" stands for Wide Area Network, not "Wireless ....". Your best bet here I think is to get a wireless router. Connect the "WAN" port off the back of the router to the port where your pc is currently connected. Use a crossover cable for that connection. Then connect your pc's to the numbered ports on the back of the wireless router. Use straight-thru cables for those connections. Reboot both devices and you should be ready to go. Just follow the instructions and make sure to read into increasing the security of the device. I'd help you with that but I'm not even sure you'll go this route.
