network adapter

I have a question about a flakey connection.

When I boot up a computer it won't connect to the internet, but if I go into the device manager and uninstall the network adapter and restart the computer, then the internet connection is fine. This is a consistent occurrence. The computer was recently reformated, has a new motherboard, XPSP2. Do you need more specific details?

Any thoughts on this?

I assume what you're saying is, that once you uninstall your network adapter and reboot that Windows automatically reinstalls it and you can get on the net. Then you lose the connection the next time you turn the system off then on again.
Right?

 

Sounds like a resource conflict to me, normally with hardware intermittent failures the device can't be consistently revived.

If the network adapter is not on the motherboard try a different slot.
It's not PCMCIA is it?

Might also be a good idea to check the interrupt restrictions in BIOS for the slot the adapter is in.

What is the make/model of the computer and/or motherboard?
Have you tried to see if there is a different driver available for your network adapter?
You say the computer was recently reformatted; did you install the drivers from a disc or are you using the generic XP drivers?

 

Check possible power settings on connection configuration?

It was the driver for the motherboard.
