We have a simple file server in the office running win2k, I have mapped the drive of the server "Z" on my computer. When I was running win2k on my machine I used to get a login box on boot up in which I had to enter my password to to log on to the server. I have now upgraded to win XP Home and I find that it no longer asks me to log on to the server, I have to go into explorer and double click the mapped drive "Z" to get the login box up. Is there a better way of doing this i.e. the way it used to be, or can I make it remember my password to login automatically?

    TIA.

Are you using a network with or without a domain?

    Try this:
Open control panel, and double click User Acounts. An the advanced tab, is require ctrl+alt+delete checked?

If you mean on the server then no it isn't.

If you mean on my win xp machine then I can't find it.

I do mean on the machine that's not logging in properly. Does your user accounts dialog look like the attached picture?

Try selecting the 'Change the way users log on and off' link. IIRC, you'll want to uncheck the box beside 'Enable fast user switching'.

I'm not 100% on this, but I am certain that the dialog you will see is fairly intuitive. I think you will know what I mean.

Well try as I might I can't get that window up. I think it's the difference between XP Pro and XP Home.

    Thanks for your help though.
