Was not sure if this was hardware of software, thinking software. At work, our Comcast router is assigning 10.0.0.x IP's. All my printers are on the 198.162.0.x... What up? Computers are not seeing printers... I can change the printer's IP, but wondering what changed.

I am so not up to speed on current networking stuff.

Hey Fred, could be a few things.
Has this router, printer pc network been working or is something new?
Assuming maybe a new router/modem and you are setting it up.
Could be Comcast is setting the router IP address by default to 10.0.0.x and the range is determined by the subnet mask. This IP address and IP range you should be able to change in the router. Some ISPs set the IP of their modem/router and if it is ever reset (usually a button pressed with a pin) then it goes back to the default settings.
If your work possibly has ISDN phone lines then it could be set to this range for NAT translation and in this case your PCs and printers will all need to be changed to this IP range to be see each other. Comcast may set this IP from their side and you may not be able to change it.
10.0.0.x are real world IP addresses whereas 192.168.0.x are internal IP addresses.
To answer your query in greater depth I require more information about the network and phone service. ;)

Phone is separate, was a working network until the Comcast router died, we have a new one coming in the AM. All our printers and computers were happy.... Will ask the Comcast guy. The 10.0.0.x are new to me...

I can change the printers, to the 10.0.0.x, but was just wondering what was going on. Thanks a lot for your help! :cool

Over here our biggest ISP (Telstra) ships all ADSL/ADSL2 modem/routers and 3G/4G modems with an IP of 10.0.0.x and if you want to use 192.168.0.x then you have to change the defaults yourself ;) The other ISPs over here usually ship their modems with the default IP address of the modem manufacturer ;)

I had a quick look and found this (you probably have already seen it) and thought it may be helpful
