I was working on a network 3 PCs (2-XP & 1-98) & a latop (XP).. the problem is the laptop would not browse for the network. Listen closely hear.

    1. When browsing thru Network Places - the window freezes & goes "not responding"

    2. You can go to the address bar and type "\\NAME" and get to the other PCs.

So your CAN connect but not by using Network Places... any ideas here?

Do all the machines in question use the same connection protocols? (i.e. NetBios, TCP/IP, etc.)

Yep .. file sharing, tcp ip, ect .. they match up .. like I said I can connect directly.. just not browse the neighborhood to see the network.. so if I dont know the network names, I don't know how to connect.
being able to connect also rules out the firewall.. which are all set up identically (remember the other pcs work)

Hmm. I've experiences similar issues, usually after re-formatting my computers. You might have to re-install your NIC drivers for the "offending" computer. Other than that, I'm drawing a blank.
