network password problems

Hey guys..

before you think this is just some wanna be hacker asking how to crack a password.. just read on first pleeasee ! hah.

oki so i have a network of 3 computers all running windows 2000 in my basement. i have them going through a router to get to the internet and to eachother. funny thing is, is that they would never see eachother on the networks, even though the work group and subnet masks etc all matched up properly.

anyway i formatted 2 of them, for a completley unrelated problem, and now they all show up on the network neighbourhood tab. yay!. problem is, is that when i try and access one of them, it asks for a user name and password. it does not ask for one when i browse the machine im sitting at through the network neighbourhood tab, just the other ones.

i dont recall putting a password in any of the computers, little own a networking one.

anyone know where this may have come from? and how i can fix it?

What OS are you talking about?

Asuming XP or W2k:
When loading windows, especially XP, if it doesn't ask you to login, then it will always login with the same user. The user will probably not have a password associated to it. To find out what name you are logged in as, do a Ctlr Alt Del, and the result is instant.

Also, maybe, you will need to go to the control panel, and Users&Passwords, to allow the "incoming" user access.
