    Hello,

I have a PC with Dual Athlon processor running XP SP2 and with 1 Mb of memory with Orange broadband via ethernet cable and I seem to have a strange problem with my broadband connection. Been running OK for over a year now but this morning the blue (Updating) light on the Livebox flashed for a while and then the livebox re-booted itself and although all the lights showed OK I could not connect to the net, and the connection icon showed network not connected. I ran the repair option and it ran for quite a while the said unable to repair address, consult Administrator.
I went into device manager and uninstalled the Network connection and restarted the PC, still nothing until I rebooted the livebox and now I seem to have a stable working connection.
What worries me is that now, I gave no connection icon in the system tray, In control panel, network connections, no network connection is shown. I don’t know if my PC will continue to work when switched off so I will leave it running night and day until I can get some feedback about what might be happening from you guys at Major Geek.
    TIA

    Problem resolved.
Thank you very much for your prompt reply and excellent suggestions.
I ran the Winsock XP fix and I now have the connection shown in Control panel Network Connections and have re-established the connection icon.
Is it likely that the Router update could have caused this or is there any other obvious likely eulprit?

It is quite possible that the update upset the network settings.
I am glad it solved it
