Network Problem

I am having network problems using XP into an Edimax fast ethernet switch.
The Network was fine until the Host (internet access) computer suffered a catastrophic crash and needed XP re-installing. XP installed ok, the internet access is ok and the network drivers are also installed as pre the "read me" file - which worked ok before. The network setup wizzard has been run to exhaustion to no avail.
The 3 client computers can communicate with each other and have internet access but the host does not appear on the network, and it does not appear in it's own "view network computers" screen. The shared printer is connected to the host and is available to host but not to clients.

All the computers are on the same work group.

ping from any client finds any other client and net view is correct on the clients

Ping does not find the host either by name or IP add. The host cannot ping any client by name or IP add

host can ping itself and net view itself

Repair connection on the network connection screen returns "unable to clear NetBT" on the host although on the clients it returns "OK" (or words to that effect)

Appologies to SNAKEFOOT - I have re-posted this as I (stupidly) inserted it into someone elses thread ( I am new to this) so I am once again open to suggestions....

    Hi Paddy h
You may have checkrd this already, but -> Control Panel-> Local Area Connection-> Properties( select with mouse Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) ) -> Properties-> Advanced-> (Select the WINS tab) then select the little radio button next to "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP". This has worked for me with similar circumstances to yours.:)

Here's a few things to try:

    1) Can you find out the network settings for each computer by clicking the start menu and selecting "run". Type cmd in the box that comes up. Now from the command line type "ipconfig /all". Can you post the results for each computer here. Each computer needs a unique ip within a certain range and the same subnet mask.

    2) Also have you tried networking the computers with your firewall turned off temporarily. The firewall might be causing some problems, so try networking with it off, whether it be the built in windows firewall or a third party one. If this is the problem, post back and we can work through it. Don't leave it off for long though, just enough to see if it is the problem.

    3) Is file and printer sharing enabled on your host. You can check this if you go into control panel, network connections, right click your network connection and choose properties. File and Printer Sharing should be checked.

    4) Make sure no two computers share the same name.

If none of this helps, let us know.
