I am on a T1 line at work and have recently done a bandwidth test on my machine and was wondering if anyone could give me some suggestions on why we are running so slow on a 100 Mbps line. I did the sma e test on another PC newer than this one and it runs a little faster but very little.
I installed Everest to get this info .
    CPU- Intel Pentium 4 A 2000 mhz(20x100)
    Motherboard - Intel Villanova D845GLVA
    OS- Windows 98 SE
    IE- 6.0 w/SP1
    Direct X 9.0b
    Network Intel (r) PRO Adapter
    Ethernet
    Connection Speed - 100 Mbps
    MTU- 1500 bytes

Physical Memory- 509 used idling 211 free 297 Utilization 42%

After a bandwidth test on 2 machines it says we are running between 13 and 15 Kbps,,
Is there something wrong between the PC's and the box they all link to or is this normal with a T1 network.
Iam not PC illiterate but Iam no true Geek yet either.
    Thanks For any input.

Well after I got home last night and installed Everset on my home PC , it says I am connected at 100 mbps also which I know isn't true , I am on a cable modem so is that the default setting in Everest or something?

are you connected to a router or hub? usually your LAN connection will be 100mbps between internal devices.. of coarse once you go 'to the internet' that will not be the case.

Okay here goes nothing,, We are all connected to a long strip that has one wire coming from it going into a big box on the wall ,, LOL,, shows how much I know about LAN's huh...I am laughing at this point ,, so i guess it is a hub instead of a router ,,

First, If you are on a cable modem its not a T1 (1536Mbps). Your ethernet NIC may be a 10/100 card but it does not mean hub is 10/100 (most are today). If its a hub, you may be getting excessive collisions causing a high amount of retransmissions. If its a switch then have someone checkthe ports for errors. That will slow your network down.

how many computers are on your network? if there are alot you won't get a fast speed because alot of comuters are gona want to access the net. at my school we have a t1 and i only got a 33kbs speed test and we have 104 computers
