    Hi,

I am running XP Home and connect to a Belkin N Router which connects out to the net.

I recently purchased a EmTec Q120 Movie Box digital streamer, which i have connected vie ethernet to the router and it has been assigned an IP address 192.168.2.9 (although this does NOT show up in my routers DHCP client list). I am able to ping it and get replies.

The Movie Box does find the MSHome network and computers attached to it but asks for a "net name" and password when trying to connect to each individual computer. I have tried the xp account name but gives a logon fail response.

Anyway, I have contacted emtec tech support (who are a bit useless really) and they told me to try:

http://192.168.2.9 in IE and it brings up a "A simple html+cgi example" web page which they say shows the router is talking to the Movie Box. they then told me to replace http with file.... and IE brings up an error "windows cannot find file://192.168.2.9 check the spelling and try again

Is this a IE specific thing that needs a tweak or can anyone enlighten me as how i can get the contents of file://192.168.2.9 displayed as the customer services state it should simply be a matter of entering the file url.

To add.. all firewalls (pc firewall and router firewall) are off.

    Thanks everyone in advance.

    Carl.

can you see it in your PCs Network Connections? what router is it?

    im assuming you have it setup like this;
    [pc]-----[Router]-----[q120]

I find it strange that its not showing on DCHP so either router not picking up (try refreshing router) or q120 doesnt like the router.

    Hi thanks for the reply,

Its the Belkin Wireless N router Part # F5D8233-4

Cant see the Movie Box in the Network Connections. But Can see router connection.

Set Up = Router with Movie Box Ethernetted into it and PC wirelessed into it.

Can ping the Movie Box, and can even telnet into it.

I think the problem lies somewhere in this laptop as I tried another laptop and it worked fine, so somewhere THIS laptop is blocking the movie box connecting to it... but im at a loss as to where to start looking.

    Carl.
