networking help

    I am trying to network my computers together I have a desktop that is connected with an ehternet cable using a wireless router and a laptop connected wireless, I have run the network wizard and the wireless wizard but when I am done the desktop will see the laptop but laptop doesnt see the desktop it doesnt enen have a "my network places" tab when you click start both will get on internet fine . any ideas will be appreciated

    Can you list some more information.
    Models of comps. Operating system on each comp. Type of router. Type of wireless card.
    Might be specific problem with hardware, so info would help.

    hp laptop
    hp desktop a1600n
    belkin wireless g router
    siemens speedstream 4200 dsl modem

    still having problems , when click on my network places and then view workgroup computers only laptop is listed there but I can view the shared folders of my laptop on my desktop that is not listed there have run the wizard and made sure all names are correct , could the router be blocking it ?

    went to help and support tools run the network diagnostic and had 2 failed
    dhcpserver when open it up it says 10/100 fast ethernet adapter ( failed)
    same for this one
    dnsserversearchorder
    I dont really know where to go from here

    Under network places you should see the router as well!....can you ping each device from both the laptop and the desktop?

    It maybe as cat5e suggests in his link to you that you are having probs with a partial TCP/IP 'trashing' from overuse of the networking wizard!
    Refer to the link to reset your TCP/IP stack, and see if that helps!

    Also, are you running the same OS on both your lappy and desktop? (mentioned by LBMEST) XP pro or Home?

    Latest drivers installed for your network adaptors?

    What are the IP addresses you're finding? Are they all in the range of
    private addresses typically assigned by a wireless router (e.g.
    192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.51)?

    Just some thoughts!

    have never seen the router under network places the only thing there on the desktop are the files on my laptop that are shared there is nothing in that spot on the laptop not sure how to ping each computer from other both are running the same xp and when I checked I could not find where the ip address was
