I had networking working great about a week ago. I reinstalled windows xp, and all went wrong. I changed it back to the settings that I had before, but it still wouldn't work. I can get files from the computer that I didn't reinstall the operating system on, but mine is restricting everything from the other one. Also, the shared printer on the computer that didn't get it's operating system reinstalled won't let the computer with the reinstalled operating system print from it.

I don't know what went wrong, but windows networking has always seemed to hate me.

any ideas on how to fix this?

    edit: i'm running xp pro

I have a couple suggestions/questions. Have you set up the reinstalled computer's permissions to allow the other computers to access it and vise versa? Also, have you double checked the IP address of the reinstalled computer? Subnet mask? What are you using to connect all these computers together? If it's a router, then you may need to configure the router to allow traffic from the reinstalled computer... depending on the brand of router, really. If it's something like a LinkSys router, I think those brands automatically detect the computers.

Post back and we'll see where we stand.

It's in the permissions somewhere. The router is working fine and allowing the traffic that it did before. I put the appropriate permissions on the files to be shared, but is there permissions somewhere else that I forgot to set? I am not using simple file sharing because I hate it. The IP, subnet mask, and everything else is ok because the other computer can see the one with the reinstalled operating system, but just not access it.

To connect these computers, I'm running a D-Link DI-614+ wireless router, running firmware version 3.20. It has the same settings as before.
