networking w2k +xp

hi,

i have set up a home network but i am having a slight problem getting my win2000 pro to 'join'

this is the story so far -

w2k pro - real pc (ethernet cable to gateway)
w2k pro - virtualmachine, running on my real w2k
xp pro - real pc (wireless to gateway)
linksys wag54gs gateway
no firewalls (only the gateways)

real w2k on the network but cannot see xp or vmw2k
xp on the network but cannot 'see' real w2k, can only 'see' vmw2k
vmw2k on the network but can only 'see' xp not the real w2k

i can ping xp from w2k and ping w2k from xp,
i have tried replicating all my services in vmw2k to the real w2k

everything seems as it should be, but its just not working,
can anyone help,

don't know whether this is a part of the problem but, on my real w2k, when i start > run > cmd and type nbtstat -n i get 'failed to access nbt driver',
i have googled this and my netbios over tcpip is enabled (system and started) and working correctly

Have you made sure that the "real" w2k is on the same subnet as the other two?

Check the ip addresses on them.

Also, make sure they are in the same workgroup/domain

all's fine in that department,

actually i have just ran ipconfig /all and noticed that my netbios over tcpip is dissabled but in device manager it says its running correctly, set to automatic and started

very odd

 

Can you post the ip addresses, subnet mask and default gateway of all three machines?

192.168.1.100 - real w2k
192.168.1.101 - xp
192.168.1.102 - vm w2k

subnet mask =

255.255.255.0 - all

default gateway =

192.168.1.1 - all

 

Have you checked to make sure they're in the same workgroup?

Check to ensure that file sharing is enabled on the real w2k
