    hello,
I am having a networking problem with my 98 computer. My computers all read each other and they all are sharing the internet. i want to make my c drive on the 98 computer accessable to all the others. When i right click the little share icon dosent show up. I went into my network properties to make sure file and print sharing where all enabled. They were. Does any one know what i have to do to get the files on my 98 computer accessabele to the others? Thanks

I'm not real familiar with ME, so maybe you can figure it out from the 2000 info...

98 and 2000 use different networking protocols innitially. You'll need to install the NetBEUI protocols on both machines. Also keep in mind that 98 uses a different file naming and permission structure. If you want to be able to see 2000 folders/files, you'll need to make sure they are DOS recognizable names. You need to have very relaxed or turn off file password security in 2000. 98 doesn't recognize the user levels and file designations that 2000 uses. You may be able to create a user ID on 2000 that has a matching ID on 98 so that you can log in to see the files/folders. Hope this helps.

    hi
thanks for your help. Really the only thing that i am having problems with is when i right click on a folder to bring up the folders menu the share icon is not there. All my computers can see and talk to each other. I just need to figure out a way to set up files on the 98 puter so i can share them,
    Thanks for ur replies

Sorry I didn't read your first post better ;) Well, I'm stumped. Are you _certain_ file & print sharing are enabled and you've rebooted?

    Right click on Network Neighborhood
Click on the File & Pint Sharing button
Make sure both boxes are checked
If you didn't reboot after changing that, you'll have to, 98 doesn't change that on the fly...

Sorry I have nothing else to offer...http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;w98

Maybe you've done this, but did you allow sharing in network neighborhood too? Did you tell the Win98 machine the name of the machine(s) to allow in, and what they're allowed access to? I had to do this when I used a crossover cable to connect new W2KP to older Win98. There were files I needed to move from the old to the new. Good luck :)
