My computer keeps crashing due to high cpu rates. I clean installed xp hoping problem might go away, sadly it did not. I'm not running any memory eating programs, which leads me 2 believe my registry is infected. Have run symantec, counterspy (log attatchment included) cc, and spybot. Also have a hijack this log file attatched. Bitdefender caused my computer 2 crash and I'm looking for help. Any would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

As TimW indicated in your other thread, it is unlikely that you are having malware problems immediately after doing a clean install. That is assuming that you did not reinstall from infected media or install any other programs that were infected.

Not True! Symantec is a huge resource hog!!! Also CounterSpy can cause a signicant slow down too. In addition you are running a bunch of othe unnecessary processes which are also wasting system resources. Like the below for a few examples:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ZoomingHook] c:\WINDOWS\System32\ZoomingHook.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0\bin\jusched.exe"
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background

Either way I doubt your problems are malware. Try uninstall Symantec and CounerSpy and then see how things look! If it looks okay now, then use different protection software as mention in the below link:

Dude, no offense but I doubt counterspy is what's causing my computer to reach regularly up to 100% cpu when I flip onto google. I do appreciate the advise however. If you have something more elaborate to suggest please do.

I have already given you the steps you need to try! If you don't want to try them, that's your decision. We do this hundreds of times per week and what I gave you can often be the problems. You don't have any malware based on the logs you attached. However you did not have HijackThis properly installed and renamed thus some infections may not have shown. Also just seeing a HijackThis log and a CounterSpy is not a complete measure of whether a PC is clean. If you really want to see if you have other hidden malware problems. Here are the elaborate steps you requested.

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, renaming, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.
    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy. - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!
