    Hi everyone,

I'm putting together a new computer for my ma and I think it's DOA. Before I send it back, I just wanted to ensure that I wasn't making some stupid mistake.

I've plugged everything in, the mobo has the power indicator light on, and when I hit power the CPU fan starts spinning. Absolutely nothing else happens. There's no error beeps at all. Just doesn't work. I know it's an Award BIOS which doesn't have extensive beep codes.

I've removed everything from the motherboard other than the power and the CPU and tried to see if I could get some beeps. Nothing.

I then removed the CPU and hit the power button to try to get some beeps. No beeps.

I realized that the screws I used to affix the mobo to the case were too long and the head of the screws was not actually touching the metal on the mobo. I thought that could potentially be causing a short. I replaced them with shorter screws... still nothing.

Basically, at this point I'm abouy 97% sure that the motherboard is DOA, but want to rule out any other possibilities. COULD it be the PS despite the fact that it's putting out some power? Could it be a short? If so, what's a good way to check for those. Could it be that the award BIOS doesn't beep when the CPU is out and it's the CPU?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Are you certain the 4-pin ATX 12V Power connector is connected?
Sorry, that's all I can think of right now.

I thought that was only for Intel architectures.

My Asus K8N-E mb has a 4-pin ATX 12V Power connector. It has to be plugged in or the manual says that the system may not boot up. The connector supplies (I think, extra) power to the cpu. You need an ATX 12v power supply.

My Gigabyte socket 939 mb also requires a 4-pin ATX 12V Power connector. Your psu should have one if it is an ATX 12v power supply.

Super! Sounds like you have a nice system. Good luck with it.
