New? Add Bookmark behavior in Opera 10.53

Just discovered what I think is new behavior when invoking Add Bookmark
in Opera 10.53. Maybe this isn't new and my brain is just scrambled. :confused

When I first noticed this, I was upset because I wanted to add a second bookmark in a different folder,
but instead of getting the Add Bookmark dialog with Ctrl+D, I got Bookmark Properties instead.

If a bookmark for the current page address has already been saved,
invoking Add Bookmark brings up the bookmark properties dialog instead.
Supposedly this is meant to prevent adding unintentional duplicate bookmarks.

It is still possible to do a copy/paste to put it in another folder.

Anyway, it had me going for a few minutes until I realized what was happening. LOL

    Hi

Yes one of the newer things added in Opera 10.x from older versions of Opera, actually not a bad option as it saves you saving bookmarks you already have and cloging up the favorites, BUT I do see where you may want ones in other folders in bookmarks and to answer your question or back you up, then YES you can copy and paste from the main bookmarks manager (ctrl+shift+b) area or in the bookmarks tab (ctrl+b) a favorite site to any other folder.

Just a new option to say "hey you already have this saved"

Re: New? Add Bookmark behavior in Opera 10.53 | ver 10.10 security update

Yea, that's what I finally realized.

Opera ver. 10.10 does not behave that way.

    I have updated twice:
First to ver. 10.51 and then to 10.53 and both times I went back to 10.10
because of a problem with the Add Bookmark dialog (10.51 and 10.53)
and also a problem in 10.53 Manage Bookmarks Search.

In 10.53 the search filter (in Manage Bookmarks) would not release or clear when the search phrase is cleared.

Although there is a Secunia Advisory #38820 which they have rated as Highly Critical,
Opera developers have reported that actual exploitation has not been reported
nor can they find a way to execute code through this vulnerability.
See the Update note in this Techie-Buzz article

This vulnerability was also reported to exist in ver. 10.50 and
    corrected in 10.51

    Hi

Yeah seems most of the browsers of late are getting targeted, I rarely worry too much over proof of concept as its just that, although they can be really exploited if left unpached for ages, but Opera are pretty good at quick patching and that one was patched in 10.51 from what I read.

What was the problem you gained int he Add Bookmark dialogue? as I dont see anything wrong as yet, but maybe missing something.

Search filter seems to clear ok fo rme in the Manage Bookmarks menu.

The 'Create In' drop down list would not scroll properly with the mouse wheel.
It is working fine in 10.10.
I have a very large collection of folders, so I do have to move around the list a good bit, and sometimes when using the scroll bar I'll lose track of where I am in the list.

Yes, that was strange. Never had that problem before. I could not get it to
release the filter. Maybe it was just a temporary quirk. I could have just closed the window and reopened, as that probably would have refreshed the whole thing.

By 'proof of concept' do you mean proving that the discovered vulnerability can successfully be exploited?

Generally, with most programs, I don't question that.
If there has been an announced security problem with a program, I will install whatever patch or update the developer provides.

The only exception would be when there have been a significant number of reported problems occurring after the update.
In those cases I may just wait and watch for a few days or so to see how it pans out.
