The idea of a rocket plane is not 'Far Fetched'. The Germans successfully built and flew a rocket fighter in WWII; the Messerschmitt Me 163 'Komet'.

The concept of Rocket Racing is fascinating; and hopefully an X Prize is just the kind of thing to spur private R&D.

Dunno where outer space came into this as from what I read about the proposed Rocket Racing is that they would be hitting 5,000 feet,

Rocket races will operate much like auto races, with the exception that the "track" is up in the sky. Courses are expected to be approximately two miles long, one mile wide, and about 5,000 feet high, running perpendicularly to spectators. The rocket planes, called X-Racers, will take off from a runway both in a staggered fashion and side-by side and fly a course based on the design of a Grand Prix competition, with long straight-aways, vertical ascents, and deep banks. Each pilot will follow his or her own virtual "tunnel" or "track" of space through which to fly, safely separated from their competitors by a few hundred feet.

admittedly their is alot of reference to Dr. Peter H. Diamandis the creator and his X-Prize for getting into space but this is different venture and similar to the Redbull Air Races but with rocket powered planes due to be tested in New Mexico on OCT 9th.... we shall see around next week if Dr Diamandis gets his venture off the ground so to speak.

rockets use oxygen to operate. with that being ever and ever lacking with higher altitudes, you would have to have an incredible amount of it to get to outer space ie having tanks of pure oxygen (which are extremely explosive btw) I cannot see a 1,000lb vehicle carrying what is reqiured to do this.

i wont say another word about it because if anyone looks up anything i said or calls those numbers they will know what i mean

Consumption of alcohol does not excuse poor manners and general rudeness nor the poor attempts at accuracy when replying to threads in the tech support forums. Wraith was joking, attempting to point out something you obviously didn't realize...Star works in launch integration at the Cape..he grew up around the space program and IS living his dream....has been for more years than you've been alive.

So, what's your excuse today now that you so rudely told Wraith to grow up? Drinking again? Didn't sleep well?

Also, we DID call the numbers just as Star said last night, they DO work. You may want to re-read the info in the links also...no where does it say these planes that will go into outer space...they are predicted to fly 5000 feet off the ground..outer space is 60 miles straight up.
