Greetings. I built a new system, but having an odd problem. I turn on the PS, the pc runs for about a minute, then automatically shuts off. So, I can't even get to installing the software. There are no "warning beeps" from the mobo. The components are:

    Western Digital 160 Gig SATA2, WD1600YS (newegg.com)
Ultra X2 Connect Titanium 550w UV modular PS (buy.com)
    ATI X1300 Pro 256k PCI-E video card (fry's)
    Memory: 512k x 2, Corsair 240P VS1GBKIT533D2 (newegg.com)
    Intel Pentium D 805 Smithfield 2.66g, LGA 775 (newegg.com)
    Raidmax Smilodon case (newegg.com)
    Gigabyte 945GZ Motherboard (Intel 945GZ Express (newegg.com)
    Chipset)

Any help you can offer would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi scottie, This could be any number of things, Are ALL fans spinning ??Are all lights functioning and what are they doing?? Is this the first time you have built ?? Do you have the 4 wired Molex connected (if required) First I would check all wiring/connections etc. and make sure they are sitting tightly, then come back and give us a little bit more information on what exactly is happening ie. Lights/fans etc.

Hi scottie (hope this is not a double post lol) This could be any number of things so I would start by checking that all wiring/connections are sitting tight. Are all fans spinning, what lights are you aware of, does this Mobo require the 4 block Molex connection. Plz post back with some more information on what exactly happens like fans/lights anything on screen etc. :)

Narrow it down by disconnecting hard drives, floppy drives, cd drives etc, in fact everything except vid card and screen, keyboard and mouse (make sure these are ok I have seen a new pc stoppped in its tracks by a bent mouse pin). The pc should start and run indefinitely showing a bios message on the screen to load an operating system.
If it still shuts down, is the mobo light still on? Yes then check the memory modules. No then there is a mobo fault.

Been working with pcs for 12+ years, first time I have ever seen this one. Everything is new, all lights working, fans, rechecked cables, etc. As stated, it runs perfectly fine for a few minutes, then shuts off. My guess is the PS.

Will do. I personally suspect the PS. If you disconnect the 4 pin cable to the mobo, it works fine.

Got home, rechecked everything. I wasn't getting video since it has onboard video, removed the X1300. POST message said "OC failure, enter setup". I am assuming OC means overclocking, but it is a new pc, hasn't been setup, so how the heck can it be overclocking?

Removed the X1300 video card, got video via onboard, POST message said "OC Failure, Enter Setup". I assume it means overclocking, but how can it be overclocking, when it should be set to factory defaults?

Try reseting the CMOS. If this don't work I also had a unit do this before and I had to apply more heatsink goup between the CPU and Fan.

Have you tried a 'Bench Run' taking it out of case thereby elliminating any shorts from mobo to case. As suggested this could be a heat problem or a faulty PSU. Just typed OC in my computer acronym dictionary and get
'Optical Carrier' but maybe someone else could enlighten you on this.

I got a PS tester last night on my way home, PS works perfect, all "green lights". I will try doing what swalsh suggested, and reset the CMOS. I would have to think OC is "overclocking", because if you disconnect the 4-pin connector from the mobo (which is supposed to be for the processor), then the PS keeps running, and does not shut down. confused

The zero c (not oc) error is a directX 9.0 thing.
Did you enter setup as instructed? and with what result?

Does it reach the OS at all... If so.. DO a re-install..

If not sound like a MB issue... I have replaced several because of this...

I can't enter setup because it shuts down. I did a reset on the CMOS last night, the error didn't come up, said it was at default settings, I hit the delete key to enter BIOS setup, and it shut down.

That's the problem - I can't get to an install, because I can never keep it running. As stated in another reply, I reset the CMOS last night, turned it on, said it was at default settings, hit the delete key to enter BIOS, and it shut down. I'm sending the MOBO, processor, and memory back to Newegg, moving up to a better grade Asus mobo, processor, and memory.
