new computer and monitor wont play nice

I bought a new Gateway computer. Got it and plugged in my monitor along with all the various plug ins. When I start the computer, it starts, but when it goes to start windows it brings up a box that says: "Oversize, recommand mode, 1280 X 1084" then my monitor goes into sleep mode. I would appreciate any help! I've tried to start in the safe mode, but it says it won't run start up in the safe mode.

 

Is there an option in F8 for VGA mode?

 

No. All it gives me is delete and F12.

If I'm understanding correctly this is brand new computer and you are starting Windows for the first time. You have not created an account. When you turn the computer on you get a manufacturer logo screen and when that finishes you get the resolution error.

During the splash screen if you hit F8 you should get the screen where you tried Safe Mode. Down the list should be an option to "Enable low resolution (480X640)". If you can choose that you should be able to go through the initial setup process and then when in Windows deal with changing the resolution. (Right-clicking on the desktop and choosing screen resolution should give you a wizard type interface)

 

Emailed Gateway and they gave me a number to call. Called them and found out that when you see the gateway symbol on the monitor, that's when you hit the F8. Tried it and was able to get it going. Yeehaw!
