I recently built a custom computer with all new parts. I am using a cooler master CM 690 case with an Asus P5Q SE Plus motherboard, a Q9400 Quad intel processor with 4 gigs of OCZ 1066 MHz RAM and a radeon HD 4870 video card. The hard drive is empty and brand new, I just bought it today. I have the full retail version of windows 7, but when I boot from the windows 7 disc, it says "Windows is loading files," then goes to what I am assuming is the login screen for Windows 7. It doesn't give me an option to install an operating system, it just goes to a blank screen after loading the windows files. I have all the BIOS settings and connections correct in the computer, I just can't install the operating system on the computer. I tried installing windows 7 on a secondary hard drive on my other computer and using it to boot up to my new computer, but I have the same problem. I've run out of ideas, and I've looked for hours on the internet for the same problem and I can't find any solutions. I have tried different types of RAM, 3 different hard drives, and I just cannot install the OS on any of the hard drives, even the brand new blank hard drive. Please give me some suggestions.

We need to determine exactly what stage the process is going wrong at. You have already stated that you get the "windows is loading files" message which indicates booting from the disc has been successful.

The next screen you should see after the "windows is loading files" is a scrolling status bar at the bottom of the screen like you get when Vista is starting up. Do you get to this stage?

The next screen should be a menu asking you to choose a language. Do you get this far?

Considering all the attempts on different hardware, I'd point a finger at the disc itself being bad. Check for dirt or scratch etc.

Well I actually got the OS to install now. I'm pretty sure it is bad RAM because I put in an old 2 gig stick from my older PC and had no problems with installation. Windows recognizes the 4 gigs of the new OCZ I installed, but when i'm using those I have game crashes among other things. However, when i'm using the older, slower RAM it tends to work without problems. Thanks for the input, but it seems like i'll be returning this memory.

Sorry, I misread your thread. The part about installing on another machine got me. Memtest86+ is a good proggie to run before you RMA the sticks.
