New computer what software???

I have just purchased a new Dell laptop with windows vista which i want to use mainly for browsing the web and also downloading movies, music etc using P2P filesharing software.

Please could someone advise me on what software i should download to protect my computer safe from viruses, spyware etc and some tuning software to keep it running smoothly and also what is the best P2P filesharing software. I have been advised to use Utorrent.

The computer has been preloaded with Mcafee antivirus. Should i subscribe to this or use some other antivirus software?

Any help on these issues would be greatly appreciated.
