    Hello,
We just used our government coupon and purchased only digital converter box we could find (all others not available .. backordered). It is a Digital Stream and we bought it from Radio Shack.

We hooked it up according to instructions (with our television, outdoor antenna & dvd/vhs player/recorder). The remote control that came with it changes channels and sound on our television; even though we now have three (3) remote controllers to worry with! Anyway, we can still get the 2 soaps I enjoy (even though that station has not gone digital yet) and we can still vew our dvd and vhs movies. The problem is that we keep finding the new converter box "off" when no one has turned it off.

I would appreciate any insight or suggestions as to what we can do to retain better controll.

Goodness, so this means I don't have control over when my converter box is turned off! This is terrible! There ought to be something I can do .. some programming I can put into the converter box .. that gives this control to me.

I got a TV and I am hoping I don't need to get one of those. I don't have cable or satilite. My channels come in crappy anyways. Is it true.. if you don't have cable or satilite.. that if you get those boxes.. your lower free channels come in perfectly? I never heard to much about boxes..

if you go to you tube and type in dtv you will see other frustrated folks and lessons. i want to blow mine up but i have no choice...in boonies...stations are great when they come in and you best have great antenna or you will go insane with all the messing around you have to go thru to get stations at all. i may move to Switzerland lol...once again govt intervention messes things up for us poor folks..good luck.

for silas..........if your tv is a newer one with a digital tuner you will not need a converter box. I suspect yours is not. Call the number and ask for the 2 coupons. get your box(es) with them. will save you a little bit of money. I think you will be amazed at the quality (crystal clear) and also the number of channels that you will now receive. With digital broadcasting your set will either get a channel or not. There is no in between. You will either get, say channel 2, and it will be crystal clear, or you will get nothing. Also the stations that you are used to watching (particularly the PBS broadcasts) have different program schedules for the programs you have been watching at certain times and days of the week. just get used to it, When our fine public servants finally decide on a cutoff date we will be all digital. I notice all kinds of minor, irritating problems right now, but maybe it will all smooth out as this new process progresses. But the picture is great now and since I only watch a couple of things, I'm happy.

I am not getting crystal clear viewing! Yes I can get same channels I watched with analog; however, it now has lines in it. (Those channels already told us they are "not" digital yet; but will be soon.)

I am getting many more channels than I ever did; however, I find them confusing. Example: Channel 7 now comes in as 7-1 or 7-2 or 7-3; channel 15 as 15-1 or 15-2 or .... Many channels come in like that telling me there is more than one channel 7 or more than one channel 15 to choose from.

.......aaaargh........ Yes we have a nice vhs/uhf outdoor antenna and I am grateful I can still watch my two favorite soap operas. However, now we also have three (3) remote controllers. OMG Which one to turn stuff on with, change channels, turn up the sound, etc. And I have to get my son to help me watch one of my dvd or vhs movies as the tv has to be set right to view these. Is there any way to put all this on "one" controller?

    to motdaugrnds:

please know i am but a 60 yr old lady...not an expert but if anyone reads the literature it does say that dtv remote can be set to use for volume and starting tv.> a hint..if you go to zap2it.com it gives you all those channels and what they have to offer.

i agree that its confusing but its being forced on us and it will take time and determination. i spent hours clicking on every thing to find out what it does and what setting may need to be changed.

i could spend much time with what i have learned but most senior centers are offering folks to help local people out with using this pain in the a... device out. i am sure for a fee you can call a tv repair person who can also help.

hang in there and have patience...good luck

Have you connected an antenna to your converter box? Did you do a autoscan for channels after connecting your antenna?

Not all digital channels will be on the same exact channel as they were when you were receiving analog signals. To find which of your channels have switched, visit the FCCs (sorted by city and state) list of stations transitioning to DTV. From there you'll be able to determine which "new" channels you should be able to receive with DTV.

I have set the auto off to disabled, but it still does the same thing, then after a few minutes it turns itself back on and everything seems to be ok for a few more minutes, does anyone know what the heck is going on, I sure don't. Help me please. Sandy:(
