I bought a new CPU without doing more than 20 or so minutes of research.

I bought the Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 (3.16Ghz, 1333Mhz) for a Dell computer that I bought with an Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 (2Ghz, 800Mhz). I don't know how I can get information on my Dell mobo since the information I got with it is severely lacking any tech specs.

Anyway, I put it in and when I start up Windows Vista remains on the loading bar forever. In safe mode it stalls at a file ending in BUS (can't remember file name). Does this mean I need to update my BIOS firmware or what?

    Regards,

You need to know if your CPU is compatible with your motherboard.

    How old is your computer?

However once you getting it working the E8500 is a good CPU.

Try and find out the model of your mobo, then do a search for it on the net. It may only be compatible with P4.

I am currently running an Intel Core 2 Duo chip now. My computer is less than a year old.

I do not know how to find out what my motherboard is, considering it is from Dell.
