New drive

I posted a thread in here over a week ago about putting a new drive in an old computer and about trying to install Windows XP on the computer and it getting stuck. Someone wrote back and asked where it was getting stuck and I replied but nobody has replied anything else back. It is on page 4 or 5 in this forum, if someone has time to try and help me. Thanks.

What XP disk are you using? If it is already installed on another pc you will not be able to activate it and Windows will cease to function after 30 days.

Ok, let me start from the beginning. I have an older computer, like 1999-2000 model Compaq Presario. It came with Windows 98. My oldest son broke the drive off it because he left it out when he took a game out and then walked by and broke it, so I got a new one that I bought from a friend. I put the new one in, and it turned and everything but something wasn't right with it. So I was going to hook it up to the internet and search and find software to match the hardware thinking it would fix it. Well, when I hooked it up, I thought, I will take this Windows 98 off and put Windows XP on it. I have XP on my good computer, a Dell. So I put the disc in and started erasing 98 and installing XP without thinking (like a dumb butt) that the drive wasn't working correctly and while installing XP it gets to the very last step and then gets stuck on 13% on the last thing to install. Which I just saw on someone else's reply to me from yesterday that I can't put the XP on it because it is on my other computer. So, what do I do now? If you try to even restart the computer to undo it, you can't because it automatically goes to finish the installation of XP. Also, I can't figure out how to load it in safe mode. Is it F2 or something? So, how do fix all of this? I think the thing needs to be wiped out. Please help me.
