With the increase in MG membership and the increasing number of threads daily, do we need a forum for zero (0) response threads. All zero threads to be in one forum, or maybe a separate forum with each forum? Once it is answered it finds it way back into it's appropriate forum.

Currently, with so many members, if no-one answers a thread within a day or so, the original thread quickly falls to pages 3 or 4 and few people go back past page 3 or 4.

There is not much worse than getting no answer to a thread. Keep a time limit of, say, 7days in the zero answer thread forum. Newbies, in particular, are disappointed if they get no reply and may spread bad vibes about "that MG site".

I am sure that many MG experts would target the zero forum/s so they can be the first to reply.

Is this feasible, or just another good idea, in theory. Bazza

I know what you mean bazza, going through the tech forums, particularly the software one i notice many posts with 0 replies and my attention draws to them to see if I CAN help, but a lot of the time I can't!
But yeah good suggestion, see what the admins think...

Well.... the problem with that is that posts would get seperated from their appropriate sections...

What would be a better solution is to have threads with no responses appear higher than ones with replies,.

The problem with THIS is that all the hundreds of useless threads would also be dredged up and flood the page with ancient threads.

    Hmm, somthing to think about..

Other forum software, like phpBB, have a feature to view threads with no replies, and a forum-level auto-prune based on age in days with no reply. Haven't found the former with vBulletin, unless I'm not looking in the right place (not talking about Advanced Search parameters).

Thanks for the quick replies guys. I don't suggest we clog up the system with useless threads, either. Maybe hold them at the front for no more than 2-7 days, then let them go back to the respectives dates/times. I don't know the difficulty in programming this, if is not feasible, the mods will tell us/me. Bazza

Well I think its basically just easier to bump a topic since it will have the same effect. this is just a way to get people's attention without having to bump it.

I think what some of us have seen though is New People to the site might
    1. wonder where their thread is (if they've looked on page 1 or 2)
    2. might not think about "bumping it"
    3. might think that MG isn't a good site since no one responded (and I'm sure you have all seen those "Hey, no one seems to care about my problem here, I'll look elsewhere" people because their question got lost amidst other problems and quickly moved to page 3, for example.) In reality, it was just overlooked, but try telling that to a newbie with a big problem.

Pegg, these points are why I raised the thread in the first place. BTW, long time no see. Bazza

Thanks -- been busy 'round here, I guess.
Yeah, sorry, I wasn't trying to sound like they were NEW points from me, I was just re-iterating them to reply to NEO.

    @ Steve -- you're too funny :)
