new graphics card!! yay!

EVGA 8800GT!! it was a very large upgrade from my old MSI 7300LE.

installed the CUDA drivers (so i can contribute to folding@home) and everything is running great! obviously, all frame rates on 3D games increased about 700% :-D

one thing i did notice though was that it was running a little hot under load (its under load all the time because of folding@home), about 80C. so i found and installed a wonderful little application called rivatuner. it allows me to overclock the graphics card, adjust fan speed, and much more. after installing rivatuner, i adjusted the fan speed to 63% (any higher and i can hear the card's fan over my CPU fan) and now the temps dont ever pass 65C!!

 

Still quite warm for graphics - thought about an aftermarket cooler, or even water cooling?

 

Those are good cards! They do run hot though. I love Rivatuner. :-D That 8800 should get you around 4k PPD if you run the folding on it. I have a couple of those cards overclocked a bit and they are cranking out around 4700 PPD each for my Folding farm.

eesh...watercooling...too expensive.

i was looking at the possibility of aftermarket coolers, though. where can i buy one? i know i can just get the arctic silver on egghead.
