    I currently have an XFX 7800GTX 256mb.

I'm looking for a new card but i dont want to spend £450 for an 8800GTX.

    My friend has just got

HIS ATI Radeon X1950 XT ICEQ 3 TURBO SILENT Heatpipe 256MB

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-067-HT

as you can see it's £200..and he gets 12000 in 3dmark05, i currently get 8000. Even though i paid alot more for my card and it was worth alot more when it came out (£330)

anyways anybody any recommendations if that cards worth the money or can you get a better card for a bit more cash? I want an upgrade that is worth the upgrade because I'm selling my 7800gtx for 150 to my sisters boyfriend.

I havnt been keeping up to date on my graphics cards so i havnt a clue :<

    My current system:
AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego
    XFX Geforce 7800GTX 256mb
    G.Skill 2GB DDR ZX PC3200 CAS2 Dual Channel Kit
200GB SATA 150 Maxtor 8MB Cache Hard Drive
    Abit Fatal1ty AN8, nForce4 Skt 939
    Hiper Type R 580W Modular ATX2.2 PSU - Blue

Hope nothing would bottleneck a new graphics card!

The 7800GTX is an excellent card to begin with. I wouldn't recommend purchasing anything else under a 8800 because the money you would be shelling out would not be worth the upgrade. IMHO wait for the next generation of directx 10 cards to come out and them pick your self up one of those. The 7800GTX is more than able to play games at very decent settings for some time to come.

Honestly, I would wait until the rest of the dx10 cards come out. The g84 series is expected in early '07, and will offer far superior performance for $200-$300 USD (under £200.) Furthermore, ATI will release their DX10 cards soon as well, which will bring down prices in competition.

If you still want the X1950 XT, that is too expensive for that card. It should be about £150. Also, some similar (albeit, slightly worse, but cheaper) cards for that price range are the 7900gto, if you can find one. They're kinda scarce, but are practically a 7900gtx with slightly slower memory timings.

Either way, I would STRONGLY recommend waiting for a dx10 card in early 07, but dont get the g80's they are too expensive. Even if you can afford them it's stupid to buy them now, since there is no need for the hardware yet, and we have yet to see what ati has to offer.

upgrading the processor will do you more good that upgrading your video card at the moment, the 7800GTX is already a great card. If your mobo can take it, check out a 5000+ or an FX series (fx-60 or 62) proc.
