New Hard Drive

    Is ata 150 compatable with ata 300??? i want to upgrade my laptop hdd to 320 at 300ata or 250 at ata 150 whats the 150/300 differance?

    First of all the standards are called SATA 150 and SATA 300. They are sometimes called SATA I and SATA II.

    ATA is something else.

    The numbers refer to data transfer rates. 300 is twice as fast as 150.
    Don't mix these figures up with the storage capacity of the drives, which is measured in Gigabytes Gb.

    To use a faster drive at full speed you need the correct interface chips on your motherboard. If this is too old then you can only run at the slower speed.

    Niether interface limits capacity so you can choose any available drive in either type.
