New hardrive & internet wont work...

Ok I am not that smart with computers but anyway...

Ok about a month ago my new emachine hardrive messes up & I cannot use that computer anymore... so i take the hardrive out of my old gateway & put it into the emachine.

Now everything works fine except one thing. My internet will not connect. I dont know why because it would work before.

A friend said that I should try to reformat the hard drive but when I put the disk in it starts but it says that something cannot be recovered & it stops.

Is there any way that I can get my machine working again?

 

Are you saying that the original hard drive is completely non-functional or is there just a problem with windows? What kind of disk are you trying to reformat with? If it is a factory restore type disk, it could be looking for info on a hidden partition of the original drive thus the failure.

If you have windows XP go to control panel and check your network connections which will tell you if you have a connection established to get on the internet. You can then right click your local area connection which will give you options to disable, repair, or it just checks the status of your connection. Try this and see if things are working like they should.

 

If you pulled a hard drive from a Gateway, and installed it in your EMachine, I surprised anything works. Usually, Windows will crash when all the hardware is changed that suddenly. The reason the internet isn't working is because you don't have the drivers for the EMachine ethernet installed because the hard drive came from a Gateway. Check the device manager and your bound to see at least one yellow exclamation point ! and probably more. You should probably provide more info: model of the PC, version of Windows, what's listed in the device manager with problems, etc. Attaching an Everest report to a future post would be helpful too (do NOT post the Everest report; attach it)... The Emachine had vista on it & the gateway had XP

With the Emahcine Windows just would not load & there was no way that I could fix it...

The Gateways Hard drive like I siad everythin worked but the internet... ill check the device manager here in a second & try to find out anythin else on that... Ill be back later with more info..
