New HD

    Right, so ive just connected a new HD to my system, it shows up in POST(detected Primary IDE Master - IDE HARD Disk and Primary IDE Slave - IDE HARD DISK) But i cant get to it in windows.

    Im not sure whats on the disk, but i know i need to format it so i can use it, but i cant get to it to format it in the computer management console. Should i try a boot disk and FORMAT it there?

    Im using:

    WIndows XP Home
    PCChips mobo, 2 IDE channels, currently one HD (Nikimi) on Master, and a Fujitsu on slave..
    256MB ram... Althon XP 2000+, yada yada... GeForce 4 Ti 42000.... 2 CD drives on secondary channel.

    What is my course of action then?

    kay, ill have to go make one now :p

    Oh yes, and those old tape pirates amongst us will be re-assured to know the old tape over the write protect slot works on floppys as well as cassettes :)

    So I take it it dont show up in Computer Managment ?




    Check to see if the Device Type is set to Auto Detection in the IDE Channel properties.

    Device Manager > IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers > Either Primary or Secondary channel which ever you have the HD on > Advanced Settings > then check and make sure Device Type is set to Auto Detection

    Oh well it was a good idea at the time...

    Thanks for helping me get it working but it seems that HD is dead anyway.... tch.....

    Nah its been hanging around for ages, i guess formatting it then using it for page file use just finished it off...

    Wont even get recognised by bios...

    Oh well no big :)
