Hi there, I'm new here. I've been having problems with my computer. It has been slow for some time and I know it's due to registry errors (that I have yet been able to fix) but, lately it's gotten ridiculously slow.

It started the other day when trying to log onto the internet via Google Chrome. I would get the Chrome task bar thing at the top but no internet, just a blank white screen where the homepage should be. Seconds later a little box would pop up saying that the page is not responding and would I like to kill the page(s) or wait? I was running into that a lot lately and I realize why, my computer is s-l-o-w. Well, I uninstalled Chrome and I'm using Firefox, which I'm not happy with but it's all I got. IE just drives me nuts.:mad Needless to say, that didn't work. It's still slow.:(

I have checked the Windows Task Manager to see what has been using up all my k's and it is Firefox.exe. Second is svchost.exe. I have no idea what ending processes will do. Or, which one to end, aside from Firefox.exe. I've been told that if I end Firefox that it would end my internet session. Which is fine, and that I could just open it back up like usual but, if I do, will it be using the same amount of k's or no.

It was also recommended that I turn off Firefox addons as they use up a lot of memory. Now, I know how to uninstall them but...turning them off? No. Should I uninstall them?

I have 3 Firefox addons... Java Console 6.0.16, Java Quick Starter 1.0 and Java Movie Player 7 ...and I have no idea what they are or what they do. If I even need them in the first place. Should I turn these off? If so, how? And, would turning them off/uninstalling them mean that I can't watch videos online...like on Youtube?

The others are AVG related. A toolbar and safe search. Should I keep these? When Using Chrome the AVG toolbar is not there. Nor is it here now with Firefox. It only shows up with IE.

Also, how do I deal with the registry errors? I have somewhere around 169 atm. I'll have a look around the forum about this too.

Any help I can get will be greatly appreciated! ...I just want my computer to run fast again.

First advice I can give you is to double check if your PC has any malware in it , this forum has a great malware detection, removal and support system, for more info and help Click on this link

    Good luck :major

Welcome to MG, BlueEyedGirl, follow wassimk's link, and do the Read & Run Me First, and get in the Que for checking your system. That would be my first suggestion too. Sounds like you have some issues there. Do what you can, and if something doesn't run, just make a note of any error you get. That is the first step; What makes you think you have registry errors? I think, as wassimk has said, get it checked first. Anything that needs checking after you do that, we can take care of here. Do not worry, you don't need to be a DR. to follow the instructions. They are pretty self explanatory ;)

You are in good hands, just take your time.:)

Thank you. I will try that ASAP!

Thank you.:) Yeah, I know I have registry errors because I get notices every time I turn my computer on. PC Speedscan Pro and AVG are the two scanning programs I have now. I know I should only have one as they could interfere with each other, I'm just not sure which one to remove/uninstall or if I should get rid of both of them before I try another, different one.

Also, I have noticed that my monitor does this really weird thing where the picture/window on the screen kinda...wobbles? Gosh, I don't know how to explain this right...it's like, the what ever is on my screen - like the internet - the window(picture?) jiggles as if there was something interfering with it. Like a power surge...only not. Any ideas?

Hi, could be anything, but do follow that link, and follow the instructions to the T. IF something doesn't work, don't stop, doesn't mean the rest will too, just make a note, and continue thru the process. Screen wobbling? I doubt very much if that is registry errors. May have a few 'unwanted' friends in there.

As for "PC Speedscan Pro and AVG " go, if that is AVG 9 FREE edition, I would keep that, but they will help you more in the Malware with that. No, you don't want two AV's .. Just follow wassimk's link, and just do it, the sooner the better. Remember, if something doesn't run, or work, don't give up. That Read & Run Me First has a lot of stuff in it, and you really should start here: READ & RUN ME FIRST

You are in good hands here, and will be fine. ;)

You most definitely need to get rid of "PC Speedscan Pro"!

    Yes sir!

Thank you.:) And, sorry for my tardiness in getting back here. I have caught a nasty summer cold.http://i752.photobucket.com/albums/xx163/McKaysAngel/rodney_cough-1.gif

I hate to say this, but, one more problem has cropped up...a windows/system32/cmd.exe thing keeps popping up in my task bar(bottom of screen) only. No boxes on my screen, just the little link thing - and I've tried but I cannot click on it, nothing happens. It interferes with anything I'm doing on my computer. Specifically the internet. Any ideas? I did Google it but I wanna hear what you guys have to say.

    Till next time...
