    Hi everyone:

I bought an HP dv6935ca entertainment laptop a few days ago (with W Vista 64-bit); as soon as I got it, I noticed that there was literally no sound produced from its Altec Lansing built-in speakers.

It uses the realtek HD audio driver; I reinstalled that with no success. The computer itself thinks that there is no problem at all, and sound is perfect from the headset jack, but the speakers just don't budge.

(It seems to be the exact same problem this guy http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=172953 is/was having, but I put in a bit more details here, hopefully it can be resolved :S)

    Thanks for reading.

I found this article at the HP support page for your laptop, hopefully it will help. It mentions the first thing I was thinking, which is that maybe the on-board speakers are disabled somewhere, or maybe something in the headphone jack isn't quite right, or the headphone 'sensor' isn't functioning correctly. If the sound circuit thinks that headphone are always plugged in, there won't be any sound through the speakers.....
    Good luck!

    Thanks.
Well, there's mixed news from my figgiting with the laptop. I read that article already beforehand, didn't quite help me.

However, I've pinpointed the source of the problem by random chance: I was planning to reinstall the realtek HD audio driver, so i uninstalled it first, and restarted; amazingly all the sounds appeared in the speakers. But when i reinstalled the latest realtek driver, the sounds disappeared again.

It seems thus that the problem is in the compatibility/conflicts bt the realtek driver and the system itself. I still need help fixing that though, because I'd really like to have the various audio settings and tweakable bars in the realtek driver rather than nothing in the no-driver.
