    Hi,

I just built my son a new computer it went together easily, it boots and pulls up bios and prompts for operating system installation... and that is where it goes south.

The windows xp installation goes well and installing all the drivers and such then just when i presume it is going to pull up the windows screen and start the real work it pulls up instead that lovely blue screen with white text we all hate.
(I am using an authentic xp install disk that I originally put on a previous build 2007, and just put on it's replacement in June 09. I have a new key for this instance.)

    I get a pci.sys error. Add F748e0bf base @ F7487000 stop 0x0000007E (0x0000005, 0xf748e0bf,0xf78da208, oxf78d9f08

I have the system down to onboard video, Hard drive, dvd drive and memory.

    I am using:
Elitegroup GF8200A motherboard with onboard sound and video for now.
    AMD II x4 620 processor
    2GIG in 2x1GIG adata 800 mhz memory
320 WD Blue Caviar hard drive
    LG dvd r-w

Anyone have any ideas why I keep crashing?

Yea... I am afraid to try that. I started it and I am thinking I am gonna mess up my working computers...LOL. I am so not a software girlie... So since you confirmed what I thought might be the issue I will go ahead and throw a little money at it. I did find a pre done one on ebay for $15.

    Thanks!

Really, all you do is run the program follow the prompts and it will do the slipstream disk for you. You'll need some software to burn the ISO, like Img Burn.
Good luck with a $15 Windows disk, hope it is the right version & clean.

Well, the disk seems fine, but I am getting past the PCI error and now getting an error that reads that I should make sure the disk is configured and check for disk corruption.... I keeps coming back to hard drive I think.

    I changed sata cables

It wasn't a true windows disk. It was a slip stream version an IT guy made for reformates and new builds.

Is it possible that the new hard drive is messed up?
