I recently built a system around the Intel D775XBX2 mainboard. It uses a Sigmatel on-board audio device.

The system performs very well as far as I can tell. I am easily writing CD/DVD's and continuing to do other work without any slowdowns.

Here is the one glitch I've found. Depending on your uses it could be a big one, as it was for me. The audio device's line in's are so quiet that they are just a shade this side of un useable. Visually on some audio editing software the Intel's input's was 1/10th the amplitude of my old system.

The only solution I found was to diable the onboard audio & not install the audio drivers. I then added another PCI sound card. I tried a $15 cheap with no effect. But the $30 Creative Labs Audigy SE I put blows the doors down. I came up with that after 8 hours. I had my fill of jacking with Intel's customer support. The entire day was spent trying one thing, it almost did what it was supposed to, having to trouble shoot that, wait on reboot's, yada yada yada. I was in a dimension of pissed off I've never been in before in my life.

If you really need some ability to input sound then perhaps this isn't a good board for you. Screw it, I'll stick with ASUS.
