new internet connection

I quit dialup after 20 years, I have a desk top with Att hot spot with excellent strength. When Ive downloaded Avista 1st it stopped at the end and said problems, so I removed it. I tried Avg and the same thing happened, is this not a good way to connect from the desk top w / the hot spot 4g? I need a antivirus.
