100% impossible for me to be java free but these exploits are getting ridiculous.

I uninstalled it back during the last one and hadn't thought about it again. I guess I don't do anything that needs it.

Think as software and our appetite for internet rich media, then the holes may come thick and fast for some software (notably Java, QT, Adobe's Flash & Reader etc), due to it easier for the criminal element to attack our PC over breaking into your home to steal goods or more so these data "information"

Protecting your personal data is a big thing now, and in work we have to attend data protection updates yearly.

Testing on one Win8 PC do I need java for anything, likelihood is yes sadly as a lot of work stuff uses java runtimes.

Unfortunately I need java to connect to my company data base. I look forward to the day when I can uninstall java (retirement in 2-3 years). :)

The most pressing danger/vulnerability is the Java plugin in the browsers.

Even if you need Java for desktop applications, it's rare, other than for 'gaming in the browser', for a normal user to need Java to be enabled system-wide - disable those Java plugins, follow the links from the OP.

I never had it installed on my browser, so don't need it there either. I figure until I need it, I'm not going to install it.
