Why would it get me in trouble?

Im not a criminal, nor do I fight.

Its a pocket knife. The blade is too small for anything else.

I just need to get a conceal-carry permit, AFAIK.

Yeah i couldn't imagine using that for anything else since the blade is so small.

Very, very nice knife Adryn. :)

I wouldn't worry about carrying it, from my experience knife laws are very vague. I have always carried some type of lock blade knife and people would always say it doesn't matter how long the blade is, it's illegal to carry any knife that the blade locks. And of course my response was, have you seen all the lock blades for sale now? The response would always be it's not illegal to sell them, it's illegal to carry them.

So, I started checking around. Looking for knife and concealment laws, asking people in law enforcement, etc. I never got the same answer from any of them, I just gave up and carried the knife anyway because I used it when working.

Your right, your not a criminal (booger, here in TN.) and chances of you being in any situation where it mattered what kind of knife you have are very slim, I say carry and enjoy it, it's a pocket knife for god's sake.

Got to thinking after I posted and it seems when I checked, years ago, that we had 3 illegal knife laws.

    1. 4" or over.

    2. Lock blades.

    3. Stiletto Knives.

Are lock blades aka automatic aka switchblades?

You are right, its a small pocket knife.

from using so many knifes, over the many years.......I meant, with spring push buttion knife is also a switchblade.....having a blade that locks, is a good thing, it won't close when your using it..........then having a two edged blade, a knife with two sharp edges..............when ever I was stoped by the cops, and they asked if I was carrying, I would show them it........I would only have a blade of 3 1/2 long.........the size of my hand across is 3 3/4 inches.........wobbles

the length of a knife legally carried, varies from state to state as i understand it... some states measure including the handle.

it is a sweet knife though! congrats on the purchase!

    Nice knife Adryn.

Probably a good idea you're not still doing tech support for MS, I can just see it now.

It was my understanding that automatic/switchblade knives would fall under the Stiletto catagory if you have that law.

But, lock blades are considered illegal about everywhere and everybody carries them.

by lock blades....you mean a blade that stays open, untill you push a button or metal part of the handle to close it........in California they are legal to carry.........here is a page that speaks of it.

I live in California, and that's all I'm going to worry about, if your in another state, it would be up to you to look..........but, please get it together, don't speak of which you don't know............wobbles

    WobblesRArt,

I did make a pretty broad assumption there.

I agree, you have to go state by state, and things can change from year to year.

The website you posted spells it out pretty good for you guy's, that's a good resource.

I've found no other contradictions to such, AZ is pretty loose on knife laws.

    Every knife shops sells switchblades.

I don't know why they make a big deal of it anyway. This is my previous knife, and I can open it just as fast as an automatic:

It is a nice knife. Mine is limited edition, number 64/250. I just don't like the plastic handle or the 440C steel used. My knew knife is all metal.

Me either. I see them at gun shows around here but never considered buying one. Don't you think those type knives have just gotten a bad rap over the years?

Years ago I knew a guy that had a Puma lock blade and he could open that thing extremely fast, he was a Highway Patrolman and he told me they carried them mostly to cut seatbelts in emergencies.

You got a great knife and can carry it. I would be very satisfied. :D

I'm very satisfied. I find myself just staring at it :D

I think they have received a bad rap. A criminal is not going to rely on a button vs. a flick of the wrist to commit a crime. It will happen with either.

Alas, thats the good ol USA for ya. Home of the free, and land of laws that makes no sense :p

After thinking of this some more, I think you might be thinking of butterfly knives as the ones that are not legal, the flashy kind with two handles…….those are not legal here……wobbles

    Matacumbie Rocky Top

No, you were right Wobbles. ;) I did some checking around last night and lock blades are legal in alot of states, I was very surprised.

I know what the butterfly knives are, I never had one but they don't look very functional. More like you said, a flashy kind of knife.

My favourite carrying knife. Spyderco Spydercard

    http://www.selfdefenseproducts.com/rigidstainless.htm

I have the half plain, half serrated version. Carry it next to my wallet all the time. Same dimensions as a credit card, just thicker. Put your thumb in the big hole and twist to the right (if right handed) and it opens up as quick as any other. Closed it looks harmless, opened up it looks awesome and deadly. Bazza

Look at the materials they use. They are all forms of stainless, with the exception of Damascus. If your knife is BM, its stainless.

Which Damascus--is not in their 9500 series. No way. Also, the larger version of this knife is the 9100, which is the same exact thing, but larger.

If its the 9500 series, its 154CM. If I am wrong, please post the material type marked on your blade.

Don't let the black coating fool you.

At any rate, there is no problem with stainless if its of a good quality. It must work for BM, because they have one helluva rep for making good knives.
