New laptop soon! Feedback, please

My old HP laptop has died! This makes me sad... but it makes me happy that I will get a new one.

I'm looking at the Dell Inspirons, as primary use of this laptop will be email, internet and lots of writing, but I'm also tempted by the larger ones among the ASUS netbooks. If only they had optical drives... I have desktops for gaming, so though I'd like a decent GPU it's not a deal breaker.

I just wanted to know what the geeks here who own Inspirons think of them, or if there are other brands I should look at as well. I don't want an HP laptop, a Toshiba, or an Acer Aspire, since the majority of my customers who have massive motherboard problem always seem to have one of those brands.

I actually own a Dell Inspiron 1721 and I swear by it
I absolutely love it, Its two years old, I've seen me do nearly everything including accidently stepping on it once. The only thing i've had to replace was the power cord from dell, because I keep mine charging all the time, and when its not charging the power cord is still plugged into the wall (I know..) so, thats probably why it gave out.

Beyond that, great PC. good for gaming (Runs WoW without issue) and I paid (Back then) a good 1600$ for it.
