A few of you know that we recently lost our Jack Russell terrier to cancer just a few weeks ago. He was a major part of our lives, as all pets tend to become. He left a large hole in our hearts.

Christmas came early this year. His name is Dakota and is just 7 weeks old. :)

    Very nice looking pup.
Hope you remember(as if you could forget this) how energetic these can be.
Had 1 myself I named Taz because he was non-stop action.
The only time he wasn't moving was when he was asleep.(recharging?)

He is pretty well balanced between eating, playing, pooping and sleeping! LOL.

Your dog is smaller than my cats! LOL But he looks adorable... and I'm glad you found a new dog. A lost pet can never be replaced, of course, but if you can bond with a new one, and appreciate them on their own merits, that emptiness eventually goes away. :)

    I resemble that remark!!!

Thank you everyone. He is a joy to have around and will grow to be bigger than your cat, Mimsy!! But probably only just barely. It is a lot of work to keep up with him, but a joy to again have a little fuzz ball on our laps. ;)

Just make sure that he doesn't become a pack leader or he will ruin your lives with his 'cuteness' factor and become 'The Terrier from Hell'!:innocent :-D

We have two big dogs that know who is boss. So the puppy still has to figure out his place in the order of things. Having his butt smacked for peeing in the house, having one of the big dogs completely ignore him and the other displaying some motherly discipline should make it fairly easy for him to get the message. It's always easier to train a puppy when you have other dogs that know the ropes. ;)

Yup Tim, at least most of the time.;)

Since it's the 'Holiday Season', I would just like to remind folks to not buy from a pet store, it would be far better to go to a breeder or if lacking funds then go to a shelter and adopt a friend.:)

Both my cats were adopted from local shelters. The older came from the state Humane Society, the younger was on display at the Petsmart, in the room that they allow the local animal shelters to use to give their adoptable cats more exposure.

And yes, I agree 100%, do NOT adopt from stores that buy from those atrocities commonly known as "puppy mills". That kind of animal abuse needs to stop.

I couldn't agree with augiedoggie and Mimsy more . . . all our pets, save one, have come from shelters, showed up on our doorsteps, or were pups or kittens born to other peoples pets.

The one exception was a dog my first wife and I bought from a pet shop (american eskimo) when she was pregnant with our first son. He was a pricey pup - purple ribbon, in fact; over 300 of his ancestors were on file. Problem was he was dummer then a bag of hammers. Not to say he wasn't a good dog, because he was - he had a big heart, but a little brain. I had never heard of "puppy mills" or such atrocities when we got him - since finding out such things occur I have often wondered if the dogs mental state was due to too much inbreeding?

Could be Spad. That is why I am partial to mutts. Of course, you never know what you will get with them either. In my partial opinion, Fred was a standout among canines, as I think Tim's new pup will be as well. ;)

I plain forgot (got sidetracked down memory lane . . . I'm doing that more and more the older I get . . . :()

Anyway - I meant to say nice puppy, there, TimW! :)

Eating, playing, pooping and sleeping . . . sounds like a darn fine day to me! :-D

All of our dogs, except our late Scooter ( a Jack Russell ) and Dakota were either drop offs or came from an animal shelter. We did an extensive search before finding Dakota, unfortunately there were none that we could adopt. Believe me when I say that if we had the funds, we would be running our own shelter for abused and dropped off dogs. There are so many animals that turn up unwanted that it should be a crime for people to abandon animals the way they do.

Yup Tim, it was bad enough before the economic downturn and with foreclosures etc. people are just letting their animals loose somewhere or just leave them tied up in the yard, I don't know how anyone can do that!:cry

I've seen so much suffering on Animal Planet's 'Animal Rescue' or something like that that I can't watch it anymore, it just depresses me too much! At least bring them to the pound. *sigh*

Yes, the economy is making it difficult to say the least. We even know of people who are trying to give away their horses. No market for them at the present and people don't want to have to take on the burden of feeding them. But what riles me is when people don't spay or neuter their animals and then try to dump a bunch of puppies!! Sickos!!!

Hey Tim, I think you have a keeper there. ;) Yes, I agree, those dumping off puppies and kittens ought to be :*** I have seen that here, and right now, have live traps set up for some nut who dumped off cats. They seem to think just because we live in the country, we will take care of them. Well, not so true. They turn wild very fast.

I think you will have fun with that munchkin!!!:-D Enjoy him!!!:)
