New Mobo, NEED HELP

Hey guys,

I'm thinking of replacing my mobo but I have no clue what to do or if I can do it. I have a compaq 0784h mobo (the mobo that the computer came with) and I want to upgrade it. If I do upgrade the mobo, how much would it cost for something better? Can I get a better one for about 200-250? And if I do upgrade the mobo, do I need to upgrade my other things on my computer if I get a new mobo? I know everything hooks up into the motherboard, so i'm just curious if I need to make things compatible with a new mobo.

Here are my specs (i'm not very good with describing my computer, bear with me)
Compaq Workstation xw4000
Compaq 0784h Mobo
Intel Pentium 4 2.4 GHz
256MB RAM (This is going to be upgraded to a 2x512)
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB
I may be getting a sound card during Christmas

Is there anything here that I would need to alter because of a new mobo?

Yes you can get a very nice motherboard for less that $250. Make sure that it will fit into the case, paying attention to the MB standoffs & is compatable with the devices & memory you have now.

As far as altering things? Might need to look into a new PSU (Power Supply Unit). Couldn't find any info about what that model you have uses. But then it might be ok.

I don't know for sure about that compaq but compaq's from a couple years back were problems cause you had to use compaq parts or nothing would match up.

If they are still the same then you would need new mobo, case and psu while making sure the ram is also compatible.
