    Hi
I'm new to this computer building malarky but thought i had got my head around it until I turned the power switch on and nothing happened!

I have a micro-star ms-6712 motherboard, I have connected power to the motherboard from the power suply also from power suply to hard drive so (i think) only thing that is left is front switch on casing to motherboard. there is only 1, 2 pin thingy that i can see on the motherboard and i have tried putting the two pin switch socket onto that. Then tried to turn it on and nothing happened.
I havent bothered plugging the reset button, led's and other random wires coming from the front of casing as I thought i only needed power switch.

Is anyone used to these motherboards and can i be guided or is it too much hastle to try n explain??

Many thanks to all the help I can get

    nice 1

The 2 pin cable from the case should be marked "PWR" this should be connected to pins number 6 and 8 on the left side of the JFP1 (see diagram)

You say your new to this, if you need a walk through just ask and i will try for you in plain english.

this helped, I now have power all sorted.
I turned on computer and there was a screen asking me what i wanted to boot from, i just randomly guessed and a little flashing line came up in top left of screen and nothing happened. Now when i try and turn the computer on nothing happens and the moniter doesn't switch on as though there is no signal coming to it.
I believe i may have *ucked it somehow

OK take out the power cable from the back of the case.

Before you touch anything inside the case earth yourself by touching bare metal on the case this will remove any static.
Unplug all the power connectors to the mother board.

Fist plug in the 20 pin power connector (normally white) it will only go in one place on the board,
Now there is a short cable that come out of the fan on top of your CPU connect it to the small 3 pin plug to the right next to the RAM slots, then unplug and re-seat the Ram sticks being careful that they just click in place and the 2 small clips lock into place when you gently press down on the sticks.

Now the Graphics card unplug and re-seat it that should also drop into the uppermost slot of the 6 expansion slots.
Now the hard drive plug in the IDE cable (thats the flat one) it normally has 2 plugs close together and another one a bit further away from the double plugs, the one that is alone plugs into the motherboard into the left hand of the two slots on the right hand side of the board, then if you are only using 1 hard drive plug the other end of the cable into the hard drive, now plug in a power cable to the hard drive.
Then the CD/DVD drive needs to go in it plugs in the same way as the hard drive with an IDE cable and a 4 pin power cable.
OK now we reset the CMOS jumpers there is a small 3pin socket next to the GPU slots move the small short bridge (see diagram) and that will clear all memory.
Now put the power line back from the case to the mother board and fire it up.
When it asks where you want to boot from it needs to be a CD/DVD as its a new system
put the OS CD/DVD in the drive and select to boot from that.

thanks alot for your idiots walkthrough, I believe I have followed all those steps the first time I tried, I will do it again in the systematic order you have writen.
My next problem is that I don't have a disc, the hard drive I am using is one from my previous p.c and I was hoping to be able to just plug it in and away we go. The motherboard is second hand and I was under the impression that it was set up ready for use. I guess I will have to buy an os(?) disc and use that, am i right?

    again many thanks

You will be able to see the bios but without an OS you will not be able to boot the PC, the hard drive you had was configured to another motherboard and will not work with this one. sorry.

Try to borrow a disk just to boot with.
