Well, again, Asus Notebook less than a month old, WIN 7 Home Premium - 2GB RAM (will max it up to 4GB next week).

Screen-shot #1. I don't understand why I can seem to do NOTHING to get this PDF (using Foxit Reader---> http://majorgeeks.com/Foxit_Reader_d4763.html ) to close?

Screen-shot #2. I don't understand why I can not seem to get this % of memory used down now, below "50% +" ("Yellow" range), back into the "Green" indication color?

When I installed the program (CleanMem---> http://majorgeeks.com/CleanMem_d5993.html ) about a week ago, initially I would hover between mid-20% & upper 40%. Have slowly moved-up over the course of this week, was up over 75% (into the RED Range) at one point today, to 81% for a moment . . . ??

    Any suggestions folks?

    Thanks in advance,
    Glenn . . .

I would think you may want to uninstall ClearMemory and see what gives???

Well, I can't say that I actually notice a great deal of difference in loss-of-speed (only a very small hit has been noticeable), but is there another way to actually "measure" (or, "monitor"), as Clean Mem is now doing (perhaps via somewhere in Task Manager?), please?

I thought the whole purpose of these RAM/memory "cleaner" programs was to (at least theoretically) "speed->things->along"? Definitely not make things even worse??

CleanMem is a great bit of software, I don't think it is the problem here. Have you updated CleanMem recently?

To see what is using your Memory.
Launch Task Manager (Win7 - Press and hold Ctrl+Shift+Esc keys at the same time)
    > Processes tab
    > Adjust the column widths so that you can read the full Image Name and Mem Usage
    > Click on the Mem Usage column title (usually twice) so that the column is sorted with what is using the most Memory at the top.
    > Minimize Task Manager and use your computer
    > When you notice that a lot of memory is being used, maximize Task manager and take a screenshot of it.

When I look at your screenshot above I see you have Win7 but your bottom bar looks like XP, have you installed a tweak software that makes Win7 look like XP?

I use XP but most of my friends are early adopters so they use Win7 ( :-D ) and after playing with their Notebooks I have to say if I had Win7 with 2GB of RAM I wouldn't be making too many tweaks or changes. My friends have made no tweaks or changes and everything runs fast and smooth enough.
I am a fan of BlackViper and have made all the Safe changes for XP but I don't know if I would bother making changes if I had Win7 and 2GB of RAM.

If you have problems with Foxit and you don't need to read PDFs in the browser you might want to have a look at my favorite, STDU Viewer (free) No rubbish or nags just a great viewer, completely free.
    http://majorgeeks.com/STDU_Viewer_d6727.html
If you want to test it before you install it, there is a Portable version available at the home site
    http://stdutility.com/stduviewer.html

I also saw your other posts in this forum and have to wonder, are you maybe trying too hard?
Since your Notebook is less than a month old, if you continue to have problems appearing then instead of trying to fix problem after problem I would suggest you backup all your important documents, photos etc and then reinstall your OS (back to new)
Copy your documents etc back, install only the software you need and know is ok and don't try to tweak too much.
Treat this past month as a testing and learning period, start again with this experience to guide you.
I did this with my Netbook, in the first month I tested so many software and encountered so many broken promises, I did so many tweaks only to find some broke something else. Then I did a Recovery (back to new) and set it up exactly how I wanted with only good software and good tweaks. 2 years later it still runs great :cool
By the way, I looked at your Eee 1215 on the web and it looks like a good unit.

    @grc123,

With all of the problems you've had with this "new" netbook that we've seen on MG have you considered restoring it to "factory condition" and starting fresh and new again?

    Thanks.

I only just installed Clean Mem a week ago, and made sure it was updated (checked/ran the updater) when I installed it.

Ok, in reverse order, no, have not installed software to make 7 look like XP, I simply when in to Display and Performance areas (Advanced tabs) and took some of the STING out of the more modern bells and whistles, in any and all attempts to make the machine "perform".

And I have supplied the requested screen-shots...hopefully this will help you, help me (ha)...I KNOW I run a lot of tabs (sometimes...well, often...usually). This (number of Chrome tabs) is nothing. Someone here or on another, "Automotive" Forum, caught me running "64" tabs a few months ago on my desktop with Vista!). I think I should be "allowed" (able to) run 10 or 15 tabs without too much trouble...shouldn't I?

Not exactly sure what you mean here - are you saying 7 and 2GB/RAM is "sufficient"?

    I'm not so sure.

My understanding is (or "was"??), that with this 64-Bit system, I would get considerably more performance with more RAM (am or "was" planning to MAX it to 4GB in a few days, but then someone came-along, either here or in one of my other posts/threads and basically said, 'no, don't bother' ...?? - hence, some of my confusion).

THIS sounds very interesting...just wondering if it will suffice my needs? Don't we all have an occasional PDF to view/read? I thought it was simply a part of the web, all sorts of Owners Manuals and such are always PDF.

This is VERY possible ... I usually do, though more often than not, it doesn't pay-off ... so much for hard work . . . ?!?
I really don't think that will help me...I really don't think I'm having so many "problems", per se (certainly not compared to my past history with XP and Vista), I think I've just been rushing (a bit) to get this thing set-up as well as I possibly can, get the most performance (AND Security) out of what I have. This is basically about a $400, maybe $450 machine (I think I found a pretty great deal when I grabbed it at "$299"/$300). I've ALWAYS had problems with technology (MS/Windows, etc.) - I'm 51, have never worked in any sort of "tech" business, have no "younger TECH buddies" around/near me - nor any older ones for that matter - started with WIN98, then soon afterward "started learning" a FEW of the basics (on my own) with WIN2000, and did ok, but have had problems ever since with XP, then Vista, then XP AND Vista (at the same time), and now with 7.

I'm sorta hopeless with this stuff, but I DO "KEEP TRYING". And yes, I've been a big fan of Black Viper, and have long "toyed with" (utilized) the tweaks he has put out there.

Thanks, I sure hope you folks here don't quit on me...I have no other alternatives, than this site, and what I glean from the web.

    Thanks again . . .
PS - I would have had four (4) screen-shots of Task Manager, but Paint stated acting-up in the middle of it all.

PPS (or is it PSS??) - - - I DID change the page file back to a MANAGED number now (which "SEEMS" to be helping...?)

Whenever I've allowed Windows to "Auto-manage" it (with this system, and with my Vista and XP machines), it's ALWAYS setting at LESS THAN the amount that it shows as being "Recommended" . . . ?

How the HECK does THAT happen?

I set it at the recommended number for "Initial" and "Max".

I downloaded the program you suggested (I LIKE it! :), but no idea what I might be able to BUMP (take OFF of) this list ? OH!! Sun (JAVA) can be stopped from "Starting" every time, correct?

I don't use Chrome so I can't comment on it but looking at your screenshots it's obvious that having so many Chrome tabs open is eating your RAM but if that's what you want to do then I can't think of any solution except more RAM.
I wasn't saying you shouldn't get more RAM, after all it's cheap, but Netbook users don't usually need a huge amount of RAM because they don't use the Netbook to do a lot of hard work. My friends have Win7 and 2 GB RAM and that is more than enough for them, any more would just sit there doing nothing, but then, they don't have 10 to 15 Chrome tabs open.

I mentioned starting from the beginning because as I read your posts I could see a similarity with what I went through.
Since I had all the important docs, pictures etc backed up and all the software and tweaks listed it was painless and quite fast to do a Recovery (back to new) and then install and tweak, I would do it again without hesitation.

PPS. I have never touched the PageFile (never needed to) so I don't know anything about it

I use WhatInStartup as well and yeah you can disable SunJava but make sure you check for updates on a regular basis.
I can't see anything else you could disable.

    Screenshot tip.
In WhatInStartup (and most other software) double left click and hold on the seperator line between the columns, a cross with arrows will appear. Drag the seperator line to the right so that the full name or whatever is visible, do this for all columns that hold relevant information then take the screen shot.

Thanks...I wrote a fairly coherent, comprehensive, AND concise reply last night, but then, I suppose due to the "sensitive" nature of a laptop/notebook touch-pad, static electricity, and my hands (which shake/tremble a bit, and are a bit "spazy", due to four spine surgeries), well, it disappeared into thin air.

It's appearing more and more that there is an "issue" with MS-Paint (as it is crashing increasingly), and of course MS has no answer ("Solution"?) for it. I don't recall EVER getting help from Microsoft on any of their stuff since I first began trying in 2002).

I've been using it a good-bit to post screen-shots here, and, well, these "Reliability Monitor" readings.

As can be seen by the dates, I was "Perfect" the first 10-days of ownership/user-ship ... and I used it HEAVILY those first 10 days. But now, well...perhaps it's something I've downloaded, causing problems...?

Please, if someone could tell me what they think?

    Thanks in advance,
    g...
