Hey guys, I'm having a problem with a new computer on my network. It is a replacement for an older slower computer, but this new one is AS slow on my network as my older computer. I installed Windows XP and everything is fine and up to speed except for the network. The network consists of one windows 2000 server, 1 windows 2000, 2 windows xp professional and 1 windows xp home workstations. The computer is fast enough, it is running a P4 2.4 GHz with 256 MB of RAM with windows xp professiional. The IP address, subnet mask, and gateway are all correct and double checked. I changed the computer to another node that is working with no changes in the network speed. I pinged other computers on the network using 65500 bytes of data and all of them timed out, I then pinged the default amount and it was fine. I know this amount of data is no problem with my other networked computer because they were tested the same way. I have the following components installed for my connection:

    Client for Microsoft Networks
    QoS Packet Scheduler
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
    Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

I'm really in the dark here and don't know what can be wrong.

    Time for my signature question:

Is it slow accessing the network in Safe Mode w/ Networking?

It sounds like you may have a bottleneck somewhere in the network... maybe breaking up the broadcast and collision domains would help. It doesn't sound like that big of a network, in which case the collision and broadcast domains wouldn't be that big of a problem, but hey... it can only make your network more efficient! :)

    edit
A decent rule of thumb... replacing all hubs with switches can improve a network dramatically. ;)
