New PC! Need Help

Hi Guys,

Just scored myself a new PC, It has a Radeon 1950 Videocard, Pentium 2160 1.8GHz CPU Core Duo, ASRock 775Dual-VSTA Mainboard. 160GB Hard Drive.

I just did a clean format and installed my SlipStreamed version of XP + SP3, I downloaded the videocard drivers, just the WDM standalone ones, VIA Hyperion INF, Realtek Audio, and LAN Drivers.

Is their anything else that I need to install, going into hardware profile, all are correctly detected, but I have been out of computing for quite a while now & I am a bit rusty.

I also flashed the bios via windows and ASRocks latest bios for the mainboard.

Do I need to download and install any other drivers, updates, etc to get the full speed and power out of this box?

I think you got all the drivers. When you go into device manager do you see any yellow explanation points?

 

I would recommend that you set automatic updates to "automatically download and install" unless you are never going to connect to the web. Not doing this is a security risk and is not recommended.

 

HeyEXOX, while it goes without saying, that collinsl is right MS updates are 100% Vital!

I have My updates set to notify me, but NOT download or install anything.

Mainly because i have long stretches, where i can't restart the computer (nor do i want to be told to every 2 mins) and that "please restart" reminder is relentless


And any security that p*****s people off is not good.

Anyhoo, it seems like you have all bases covered to me on the hardware side.
Just make sure you get a nice AV and FW installed and keep it nice and clean
