As if there weren't enough scams out there, including the "scare-ware" rogue anti-virus programs that tell the user they have hundreds of bad viruses and they need to buy such-n-such program to remove the viruses, there's a new variation of this same type of scam. As if MS has nothing better to do than monitor your personal PC for viruses.

Yeah thats pretty what what I was speaking of over in the scam thread. I said its not internet only its on the phone now. I had people I know get called saying they notice there computer was using alot of resources and sending out spam and virus to people they all know. And in fact for a fee this person will come to your house and "fix it" for a fee. So basically you don't know and admit thinking oh my a virus and then just simply agree cause what are you a newbie? Yes.

Strangely enough, my daughter had one of those phone calls, but as she knows that I set up, and keep her computer safe, she guessed straight away that it was some scam, and told them so. She let me know afterwards, so I had nothing to do with her answer, but it showed that she listens to me.
Good point to bring up, as you say, many novices might be conned.

My brother has had two now,the first one told him to go to his computer and he hung up then phoned me and I told him it must be scam Microsoft don't do that.

The only reason he gave it second thought is that he'd just got a new win 7 laptop and he thought the laptop shop had given his details to Microsoft, after all the store are always calling and sending letters about support and extended warranty.

Its a great scam especially after Christmas when everyone has new computers, the biggest thing stopping it from working is all the callers are usually from Indian call centres with poor English skills,I'm sad to say this but if someone calls me from an Indian call centre with a poor accent I hang up without even listening to them, just like spam on a forum after a while you can kind of smell it.

    The second call I can't can't type here :-D

Just ask a female member of your family, one of them will have it tattooed somewhere:-D

I try and advise women not to become so obsessed with me but they always say the same thing -

"I'm not doing it because I'm obsessed I've always wanted a 12 digit number on my forehead."
