Hi, please help me. Put together new bits for pc last night, turn on machine, mobo lights up, fans kick in, NO BIOS beep, pc clicks off. Dead. :(

What does all this mean? Link

Should I be concerned? My screwdriver slipped last night and hit the motherboard, there isn't a scratch on it although it was quite hard. I know this may be the issue but how many others have done the same and got away with it? confused

Do I need to update the firmware to get my new Raptor HDD working? Will my SATA drives just work.

    I'm sad.

Any advise help appreciated. The shop are offering to build it free and swap parts till it works, but I want to get it working.

    Parts include:

    1 X nVidia EVGA 680i SLi
    2 X 1GB DDR2 667 RAM
    1 X Core2Duo E6600
    1 X 700Watt TAGAN Dual PSU
    1 X ASUS nVidia 8800GTS

Concentrate on getting the motherboard working first. Take out all cards you dont need, disconnect all drives and run with only mouse, keyboard and graphics connected. If you are building this perhaps you have an older pc you can borrow the graphics card from.
Start with a single memory stick (or pair if required).
make sure all power connectors are corretly pushed home.
Take the processor out and carefully align it and reseat it.
    Power up

If it doesnt start as far as the bios you have damaged the motherboard or processor. If the memory was the wrong sort or faulty or not plugged in correctly I would expect to hear a beep,

    Post the results

    Good Luck

Hi, well, I did all the above advise thanks. Nothing. Ended up swapping the MOBO and now it all works. Sure feels like a responsibility all this high end hardware.

    Thanks again. :)
