If I follow your question correctly, threads will show as new if there are any new posts in them since you last visited. This is tracked on the site as far as I can tell, as opposed to using cookies on your computer, as when I log in from work, read this thread, then come home, if I log in again and no one has replied to it, it will still show as not new.

I hope that helps. If not, I can probably break it down even farther for you.

    Have a great night!!

    Thanks Cal

So the 'New Posts' list is personalised ?
(what i see is different to what everyone else sees)

I assumed the threads were removed from the new list, either manually or at certain times of the day

    Tricky ;)

I think it resets to 0 when MG time is 00:00. That's why there were only 2 threads for you shanemale. Once you read a thread it is still listed but the title is not in bold letters.

    Thanks sailor

Its 1:40 am here at the moment (GMT +9hrs)
Wouldnt have a clue what time it is in Greece or the U.S

Its no big deal anyway, just wondering
I though it would be more along the lines of
30 most recent / 50 most recent or something like that

Ahh.... I think I see where you were headed. Generally, the defaul view for a forum is any thread with activity inthe last 30 days. I think that you can change this inthe control panel as well. I apologize for not following correctly (and going to bed without checking back last night :)

    OK... so let me revamp:

Threads in bold have had new posts since your last visit. Threads not in bold have had new posts in the last 30 days. THreads with no activity for more than 30 days do no show by default unless you search for them.

I hope that clarifies a little bit better.

Yes, in a sense the "New Posts" list is personalized since these were new since to the last time you logged in. That info is most likely stored in your user profile somehow.

To go further ... If you were login to the forums and you stay for awhile (more than 15 or more minutes - that is to say there is a time factor involved), say in Software, if you go back to the main page and refresh it, you'll see that the icons on the other forums will show no new posts/threads. That's to say after awhile when you go to a different forum it'll indicate there are no new posts/threads even though it was indicated at the main page when you first logged in.

You can also mark the forums read at the bottom of the main forum page or through the Quick Links menu at the top of any forum page. When you do this, obviously, the New Post list will show nothing. Then you'll start all over when you log in again.

    Hope this wasn't confusing.
